Home Insurance

Do you really need home insurance in Mexico?

Yes. You do.

Why you need home insurance in Mexico

Homes in Mexico are primarily built of concrete, without the wooden studded walls and wooden ceiling rafters & joists that are common in the USA and Canada.  This leads to the false impression that fire is not a big risk, so why worry?

This impression is often supported by real estate agents and sellers who downplay home insurance costs by telling prospective buyers... "Home insurance isn't' really necessary here in Mexico - the buildings are made of concrete." when in fact, home insurance claims are far more frequent in Mexico than you might expect.

So what are some of the risks?

  • While concrete may not burn in the traditional sense, it can be damaged and weakened by the burning contents of your home... wooden cupboards, doors and furniture, for example.
  • An even more devastating risk is propane explosion... something that can destroy your entire home... as well as the home next door, leading to a potential lawsuit by your neighbor.
  • A power surge occurs almost daily in Mexico and can damage or destroy appliances, computers and the wiring of your home. Imagine the cost of rewiring your home.
  • Lets face it, crime is higher in some areas of Mexico as is the risk of break-and-enter theft.
  • If you hire a worker such as a gardener or a maid and they are injured while working on your property, you are liable in Mexico to support them during their recovery. Insurance Liability Protection steps in when you need it.
  • Floods, hurricanes, landslides, wind damage... depending upon where your home is located, these risks may also come into play.

Would you live without home insurance in the USA or Canada? A TioCorp Home Insurance Policy in Mexico just makes sense.
